Project: Creating a home theater in an indoor swimming pool! What was once a 24-year old indoor, in-ground swimming pool has been transformed into a fully functional home theater and party room. The homeowners’ goal was to make this a fun home theater, while maintaining the pool’s integrity. The pool enclosure didn’t get filled in or built over; True-Aspect designed the system to be retrofitted into the pool itself! The clients chose a color scheme for the theater to flow with the rest of their home, and the swimming pool ladder and cleaning accessories are now wall decorations. Special Considerations:The pool is housed in a metal building, so acoustical considerations were a factor from the onset. We could not drill into the pool structure, which meant we had to maintain the pool’s structural integrity. Also, there was no way to get power down to the deep end of the pool where the powered subwoofer is located, so the subwoofer amplifier had to be removed from the cabinet and mounted in the equipment rack. And of course, we had a specific budget, so the challenge was to design a system to stay within budget while creating a home theater in a unique atmosphere. Overcoming Roadblocks to Accomplish the Install: In order to stay within the budget, True-Aspect couldn’t use acoustical paneling to treat the walls. We recommended installing carpeting on the walls of the pool and deck, and heavy draperies on the walls of the metal building. We further selected high quality components from three major players in the market – Klipsch, Marantz and Monster, proving that you don’t need to spend a huge amount of money to get a high performance system. Finally, True-Aspect used its woodworking skills from our car audio days to remove the subwoofer amplifier from its cabinet and filled in the amplifier hole, thus making it necessary to only have to run speaker wire to the subwoofer. The amplifier was then mounted inside of the equipment rack. Equipment List:
